Teaching Aids

Teaching Aids and Showcasing:

A)         Concept of Teaching Aids:
Teaching aids known as audio visual aids, sensory aids. Helps to make teaching concrete, effective and interesting. Cannot replace teacher. Communication of ideas between persons & groups.
Sources of Learning:     Direct sensory contact
Pictures or similar other representation of facts
Oral or printed words

            Audio –Visual Aids: Audio aids means learning through listening
                                                Visual aids means Learning through seeing
B)               Definitions of Teaching Aids:
1.                  Audio – visual aids are devices which can be heard or as well as seen.
2.                  Audio – visual aids impart knowledge through senses to ensure quick and effective learning.
3.                  AV aids are those aids which help the triangular process of learning i.e. simulation, motivation and classification
4.                  AV aids by means of which learning process may be encouraged or carried on thorugh the sense of hearing or sense of sight.
C)              Types of Teaching:
Classification – 1:
1.                  Visual Aids

3.                  AV Aids
4.                  Activity Aids
5.                  Memory Aids
Classification – 2:
1.      Projected Aids
2.      Non Projected Aids

Ø            Visual Aids:
1.Chalk Black Board:
     -        Use of coloured chalk
     -        Degree of neatness, clarity & accuracy
     -        Divide blackboard work into sections
     -        Size of fonts
     -        Free from style
     -        Express their ideas or alterations or corrections
     -        Training for fault finding can be inculcated
     -        Classroom discipline
     -        Teacher should stand at proper place
                 -        Shining surface of chalk – writing on the B.B. will not be readable
                 -        Movement of arm & fingers, stiff should be stiff
2.Charts:
-         Bold lines
-         Proper colour combination
-         Labelling
-         Shows interior of something
-         Agencies for charts SCERT, CIET etc.

3.      Pictures:
-         Right atmosphere to the science room
-         Teaching real, interesting and effective
-         Appropriate size
-         One picture should clarify one idea

4.      Models:
-         Expensive
-         Self prepared under guidance
-         Close resemblance to the objects
